An Inconvenient Truth

I wanted to go see a movie today, so I could go sit in a nice, dark, air-conditioned place, and I decided I was FAR overdue to see this film.

I'll give you a moment to take in the irony of THIS film and the environmental impact of non-renewable-resource gobbling air-conditioning. At least I drove my not-a-hybrid-but-still-very-energy-efficient car.

Anyway, I don't know why I took me so long to go see this. Al Gore, is, after all, my political crush. And why not? Tall, dark and handsome, with a REALLY big...

What? I was going to say brain.

I'm really glad I went. Most of the audience was really responsive. People GASPED when he showed how much the glaciers have disappeared, for example. (Being the sap that I am, I cried instead.)

Mostly, I liked it because, without ever being condescending, he explained the situation and the surrounding issues, in a way everyone could understand and respond to.

It also brought me back forcefully to the 2000 election, and how devasting it was to so many of us. And even though he has already said he would not, I really wish he would run again.

It reminded me, too, of how much I enjoyed Earth in the Balance. I had admired Al Gore long before I read the book, but it really brought home to me both how brilliant he is and how good he is at making ideas accessible.
